Boredom Busting Children's Events...Rachel Jane Is Back!

After the great success that was our Boredom Busting Children’s events during the summer holidays last year, we’ve decided to bring it back with the help of local Hampshire author, Rachel Jane!

As you may remember, last year Rachel visited Beatons Petersfield, Crowthorne and Tisbury with her debut book ‘Milo Goes to The Seaside’. Each visit was filled with a story-telling and fun activities, and even in Tisbury, a chance to see and explore Milo the VW Campervan himself! Since then, Rachel has gone on to release two more books ‘Lil’s Cupcake Delivery’ and ‘Tallulah Goes to The Festival’ and we’re pleased to say that she is back visiting Beatons with all three of her books for more fun-filled events.

With captivating rhyme and story, Rachel’s books are perfect for ages 5 and under, so why not join us and truly bust boredom!

Summer at Beatons

Summer is here and we at Beatons are ready for it. From our delicious summer menu, to our exciting book events and activities and masterclasses, we have all you need to have a fun filled family summer.

Activities and Masterclasses

Alongside our classic book events (talks and signings), we also offer a range of other activities and masterclasses for you, our customers to enjoy. Here’s a list of what you can be enjoying this summer with your friends and family. To find out more about booking into these masterclasses, talk to your local tearoom manager.

· Beatons Bottomless Brunch at Beatons Petersfield.

Working on a pre-booking basis only, our bottomless brunch will take place every third Sunday of the month.

·  Tea Masterclasses

Enjoy trying and tasting new teas whilst exploring our tea menu and expanding your knowledge with Beatons’ Tea Ambassador, Harry.

· English Sparkling Wine and Cake Tasting

Explore our wide range of cakes (including gluten free and vegan options), with the wonderful addition of English Sparkling Wine.

· Tea and Cake Pairing Masterclass

Join us for our masterclass to discover which flavours compliment each other well and will be hit for your friends and family to enjoy.

Summer Menu

You may have noticed we’ve made some subtle changes to our menu in July to fully take advantage of the great summer produce we now have available. From our Crushed Avocado on Sourdough toast or our slightly more heavy Avocado Medley, to our classic Poached eggs on Toast, we have healthy, yet deliciously filling options for you to have at breakfast.

Enjoy our daily quiche served with a  generous side salad. You’ll get to experience the delicious flavours of Red Pepper and Feta, or Smoked Salmon and Watercress while enjoying some quality time with a friend.  For a lighter option enjoy our Chicken Caesar Salad - Chicken and Smoked Bacon served on a bed of crisp bed of Gem Lettuce; perfect for those warmer days when a larger meal feels like a bit to much.

Finally finish off your meal with one of our delectable fruit or chocolate sundaes. A juicy combination of summer fruits, strawberry and vanilla ice cream topped with almonds, syrup and whipped cream or Chocolate Decadence with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, home-made brownie, chocolate sauce, whipped cream topped off with Maltesers; items every member of the family will enjoy.

Book Events

After the success of ‘Boredom Busting at Beatons’ during the summer last year, this year it returns with a passion. Throughout the summer we will be hosting many book events in the tearooms for all ages, but especially children to well and truly bust the boredom during the summer holidays.

We’ve recently had some great book events take place; including Richard Issac’s signings at Blandford, Tisbury and New Milton, Fanny Charles and Gay Pirrie—Weir’s talk and signing in Tisbury and Chris Oswald’s very recent signing in Blandford. We very much look forward to hosting more authors this summer! Beatons New Milton - An Afternoon With Wizzy!

 

As you may remember, during August we took on the mission of busting boredom for the summer holidays. Across Beatons we hosted several children's book events with many wonderful authors. Here at New Milton, we had Beatons Book Ambassador, Liz Darcy Jones join us for a fun-filled story telling session of 'Wizzy and The Seaside Adventure' by local author Anthony Ridgeway and local artist Suzan Houching. Well, on Wednesday 24th October they will be visiting us themselves for another story-telling, signing and talk!

'Wizzy and the Seaside Adventure' is about Dan, who has a rather strange friend - Wizzy! He's a highly opinionated and automated wheelchair who is more than the sum of his parts. Together friends, James and Sophie he and Dan (not forgetting Honey the labrador for some four-legged intelligence) a thrilling seaside adventure unfolds. Perfect for ages five to eight, we'll also have activity sheets and colouring pencils (not just for the children!).

The event starts at 4pm and tickets cost £2. All money made from tickets is being donated to local charity, Mencap Gateway Club, New Forest; an organisation dedicated on being the voice for learning disabilities in the New Forest. Tickets are available in the tearoom!

Beatons Petersfield: 'Home Waters' Book Signing

Following the success of our summer Boredom Busting book events, we have another lined up for you! Beatons Petersfield will be hosting Lt. Cdr. Rob Hoole, RN. for a book signing for his latest release 'Home Waters', written with Cdr. David Bruhn, USN.

Lt Cdr Rob Hoole, RN will be signing copies of ‘Home Waters’ which he co-authored with Cdr David Bruhn, USN. Both writers have commanded minehunters in the Persian Gulf and have produced many books about naval mine warfare. 

Signed copies of 'Home Waters' will be sold for £26, £10 of which will be donated towards Project Vernon - the campaign to erect a monument in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth to celebrate the mine warfare and diving heritage of HMS Vernon, which previously occupied the site. 

The signing starts at 11:05 am and will last until 2pm on Sunday 11th November 2018.

In last month’s bulletin you may have seen that we aimed to bust boredom this summer holidays by hosting several children’s story-telling events across our tearooms.

With authors Rachel Jane visiting us with her book ‘Milo Goes to the Seaside’ in Beatons Petersfield, Crowthorne and Tisbury (where she even brought Milo himself!), Tony Flannagan coming to Petersfield with ‘Runaway Tales with Mozzarella Bella and Spoon’ and Beatons Book Ambassador Liz Darcy Jones reading ‘Wizzy and the Seaside Adventure’ by local author and artist Anthony Ridgway and Suzan Houching at Beatons New Milton (you'll have to wait a little longer to meet them but it’s definitely worth it), we can safely say we did it!

Each event saw children captivated by Rachel, Tony and Anthony’s stories, taking them to another world where VW Campervans are talking, spoons are running away and how a boy named Dan and his highly opinionated and automated wheelchair Wizzy go on various thrilling adventures! With the little help of our new Children’s activity sheets and some tea and cake, each child that entered left with a great big smile on their face – especially when they realised they would get to meet Milo the Campervan himself – many thanks to Rachel for bringing him and allowing the children to go inside!

Though we’d love to share all the glorious details with you about our children’s events, we think it’s best to keep it a special surprise for you all. We’d very much like to thank Rachel and Tony for coming to visit our tearooms as it was such a pleasure to work with you both on these events and look forward to working with you both in the future.

The wonderful thing about books and story-telling is that they are universal; whether you are eight or eighty, creativity translates itself and lights a spark in everyone’s mind.

Beatons Crowthorne - Boredom Busting: Milo's Final Stop in Crowthorne!

The summer holidays are upon us and Beatons is here to help! During August, we're hosting several FREE Boredom Busting children's events.

Her final stop on her visits to Beatons Tearooms, local Hampshire author Rachel Jane will be joining us at Beatons Crowthorne for a story-telling and book signing of her debut book and Beatons' August Book of the Month, 'Milo Goes to The Seaside'. Taking the brave step, Rachel decided to self-publish and enlisted the help of talented illustrator Jamie Flack to help bring Milo to life! With a captivating story and rhyme, Milo is perfect for ages five and under!
