Beatons Petersfield Charity Book Event especially for Vegans and the Dairy-free!

Please note - this event has been cancelled through lack of ticket sales (we suspect the football and weather may have something to do with it!) although we have plenty of copies of Agata's book in the tearooms

Something special! Enjoy a slice of our scrumptious vegan cake and an equally delicious taste from Agata's dairy-free cook book.  Raise funds for FitzRoy too - 'Dairy Free and Cake and Tea'!
When?  Sunday 1st July 2.30 pm (after the market)

By Who? Agata Andryszczak - local Hampshire author who knows how to make food irresistible  (especially breakfasts!) even if you're a Crohns sufferer or on a restricted diet.

Tickets: £6 per person in advance (limited numbers) direct from Beatons Petersfield. We'll donate a massive £3 per ticket to FitzRoy (our charity of the year). Reserve yours now by calling us on 01730 858856 or, better still, popping in 30 High Street, Petersfield, GU32 3JL (towards the Heath, across the road from M & S Food).

Includes: Vegan Cake, filter coffee or Beatons Brew (our most popular loose-leaf tea).

Early Applause to a Generous Author! Agata has generously agreed to give £2.00 from the sale of every copy of the book sold at the event to FitzRoy, supporting people with learning disabilities and autism - a great local cause.

Beatons Petersfield - A Second Visit to the Jungle!

Inside The Jungle Show -
An elephant's coming to Beatons Petersfield on June 1st 4pm!

Local Beatons children's author Charlotte Brightwell returns to the tearooms in Petersfield on Friday 1st June at 4 pm for another mix of story-telling and activities for young children.

Her last event, launching with us
'The Jungle Show' was a huge success and requests for more have been granted! FREE with your drinks.

Charlotte’s always loved creating: from drawing and painting to up-cycling and renovating.

She also loves children and is a local Primary School teacher. Read more about her on our Hampshire Authors Page here.

We’re right with Charlotte in believing it’s important to nurture a love of words, rhyme and story in young children. Read more on her website by clicking here and see you in the tearooms very soon. Remember we have a lovely stock of children's books, including Charlotte's along with milkshakes, smoothies and our sparkling sodas.

Beaton New Milton Twinkles for Charity

May Bank Holiday Monday 2018 saw Beatons New Milton scoring a ‘first ever’ – as far as we know – in tearooms history! We celebrated Angela Thorn’s successful launch with a free, fundraising Open in aid of Beatons New Milton’s Charity of the Year: Helping Older People New Forest (known locally as HOPe).

Andrea inviting Beatons' Regular Mark
to Guess the Number of Teas!
Guests, local children’s author Rob Stevens and the ‘Beatons New Milton and ‘Beatons Central’ team raised the roof singing a specially written Beatons’ version of ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ – a first ‘in-tearooms’ mini-choir!

Local Author Rob Stevens signs copies
of his new book 'Lucky Break'
It was followed by Rob reading an excerpt from his just-published book ‘Lucky Break’. The event is the start of twelve months of ongoing fundraising for Beatons New Milton’s charity of the year, Helping Older People New Forest.

Free slices of Beatons’ signature carrot cake and miniature cream teas were served, along with cooling sodas and Jasmine Blossom tea. Rob Stevens generously donated £2 from every book sale to the charity, and a draw to win afternoon tea for four was launched. Beatons New Milton gives 50 pence from the sale of every Community Chai Latte and Charlton Soda to its charity of the year, throughout the year.

A lovely contribution from a young Beatons' fan!
And although the sun did its best to keep the crowds away, we made the stars in everyone’s eyes shine as a young guest who’d practised ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ for ten days leading up to the Open House, played the song as the intro to the Beatons’ version.  His smile of pride certainly warmed everyone’s hearts!

The competition to win the biggest of our launch activity prizes - Afternoon High Tea for Four - continues in-tearooms until the end of May.

Pop in - you'll find Beatons New Milton at 30 Station Road, just down from Morrisons - and 'Guess (or count!) the Number of Teas'. The first correct answer pulled out of the teapot on June 1st will win this lovely opportunity!

U is for... Union and Unique

‘Union’ and ‘unique’ – both have their roots in the Latin, ‘unus’, meaning one. We all know there’s a Royal Wedding looming this month and I was reminded of that phrase, ‘the union of marriage’. So many commentators and spectators (perhaps even you and me) will be speculating whether this ‘union’ will last and offering our unasked-for advice! So, what’s Beatons' view?

We try not to speculate and we’re not great fans of advice either, recognising that knowledge only becomes wisdom when it’s experienced personally. However, we do celebrate and appreciate that we are all UNIQUE. If we were asked to share a pearl of wisdom with the Royal couple it would probably be to remember your relationship is yours and yours alone, irrespective of mere opinion: it’s uniquely yours.

Musing further on ‘union’ here’s an inspirational metaphor. And for the happy couple? Beatons Central (our group HQ) is making a donation to one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s chosen charities: The Wilderness Foundation UK – their request to any well-wishers.

As to the metaphor?

Whatever the weather - stay in the pot!
Unsurprisingly we’re heading into the beautiful analogy of tea. Ready to jump into the pot?

Every tea has its own distinctive characteristics – like each of us. To make a distinctive blend, one or two more teas jump into the pot together. We’re familiar with the blends which constitute the Beatons family, Tearooms Franchise Owners and their team members. And, of course, there are the unique blends of Harry and Meghan and every family or couple on the planet.

The interesting thing about tea is that the process produces something greater than the sum of its parts. And it doesn’t depend on one part taking and the other giving.  It’s ‘give and take’ simultaneously!  The water gives its nature to the tea but also receives the tea leaves’ flavour. The tea leaves give their flavour but also ‘come to life’ and expand as they absorb the water… Isn’t this like the true nature of Love, where giving and receiving are synonymous?

The blend that results is impossible to divide or distinguish – we can never precisely quantify which leaves gave more or less of their juice. I like that. All we know is that we have a good cup of tea in our hands!  We do sense, however, when there’s something missing. If the Jasmine is missing in a Jasmine Blossom tea, it doesn’t taste the same!  Sometimes it’s easy to remove ourselves from the pot - perhaps we’re afraid the water’s going to be too hot, or that we might end up giving too much of ourselves.  The analogy of tea suggests that this will never be the case: the giving includes the receiving although the tea leaf always retains its unique identity.

Tea of The Month: A tea the Duchess would approve of...

What is it?

Duchess Earl Grey

Dried lemon peels and orange pieces add as citrus twist to the traditional Earl Grey Tea, making it a fantastic alternative to savour and enjoy. High quality tea is used, providing a wonderful piquant flavour that when combines with a quality bergamot oil and citrus flavours has a full bodied finish. Beautifully refreshing and certainly one we think the Duchess would approve of.

Earl Grey slowly turns to his Duchess
Her fragrance – citrus – he concludes is nothing less
Than English with the tang of Persian lemon to kiss
The tongue with its distinctiveness
It needs no muddying with milk, this tea
Needs nothing but to sit in gracious company!

Try pairing this tea with a slice of  Lemon and White Chocolate Cake or Orange Layer Cake, which compliments the citrus flavour beautifully. And remember if you’re gluten free we have a delicious Lemon Polenta cake.

Why don't you come on in to one of the tearooms to give this delicious tea a try with a slice of cake?
